Microsoft 365 E7: The Frontier Suite and Your Path to the Upgrade

04 November 2026

A partner guide to positioning E7 with Microsoft 365 E3 and E5 customers

Customers are no longer asking what AI can do. They are asking how to deploy it securely, govern it consistently and prove the business value. Microsoft 365 E7, the Frontier Suite, was built for that conversation, and it has been generally available since 1 May 2026. For partners, it is a clear opportunity to move customers from AI pilots to company-wide execution.

What is Microsoft 365 E7?

E7 is a single license that brings four things together:

·        Microsoft 365 E5 for secure productivity, advanced security and compliance.

·        Microsoft 365 Copilot for AI in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams, grounded in Work IQ.

·        Microsoft Entra Suite for adaptive identity and network access controls.

·        Agent 365, the control plane to observe, govern and secure AI agents.

List price is $99 per user per month on an annual commitment, or $90.45 without Teams. Bought separately, the components come to roughly $117, so the bundle saves about 15%.

Why E7 matters

Most organizations already experiment with Copilot, and many are starting to build agents. The risk is that scale outpaces trust. E7 addresses this in three ways:

·        AI for everyone, not a pilot. Copilot is included for every licensed user instead of being a separate add-on that needs its own business case.

·        Governance for agents. Agent 365 gives agents an identity and applies existing Defender, Entra and Purview protections to them, which helps contain shadow AI.

·        One foundation. A single SKU for users and agents reduces integration work, licensing complexity and the gaps that appear when point solutions are stitched together.

Which customers are the right fit?

E7 is for organizations that are ready to put AI to work across the business, not only in one team. Look for customers who:

·        Want Copilot for the whole workforce and have already proven value in a pilot.

·        Are building or deploying agents and need governance, auditability and lifecycle control.

·        Operate in regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, government and legal, where AI oversight is a board-level topic.

·        Want Zero Trust network access and could replace a legacy VPN with the Entra Suite.

·        Prefer one predictable per-user price over managing several add-ons.

E7 is probably not the right first step for customers who are not ready for Copilot, do not plan to use agents, or only need AI for a small group. For them, E3 or E5 plus targeted Copilot licenses is the better route, and a good partner says so.

The E3 customer: build the case in stages

E3 customers have a bigger step, because E7 adds E5 security, Copilot, the Entra Suite and Agent 365. Today they have foundational identity (Entra ID P1) and basic threat protection, and Copilot is an add-on. Treat the move as a journey:

·        Start with readiness. Assess data oversharing, sensitivity labeling and identity posture before any Copilot rollout.

·        Prove value. Run a Copilot pilot with a defined group and measurable outcomes.

·        Make the security case. Show the gap between E3 and E5 on threat protection, advanced compliance and identity.

·        Consolidate. Where Copilot, security and identity add-ons are already stacking up, model E7 against the combined cost.

The E5 customer: the shortest path

E5 customers keep everything they have, because E7 only adds. The conversation is simple: if they already pay for E5 and plan to roll out Copilot, the Entra Suite and agent governance, E7 packages those at a lower combined price than buying them separately. Lead with these questions:

·        How many Copilot licenses are you buying or planning to buy?

·        How many agents are running today, and who owns them?

·        Are you ready to retire a VPN or separate access tools?

A partner path to the upgrade

1.       Segment your base. Tag customers by license (E3, E5, E5 plus Copilot), size, industry and AI maturity. Prioritize E5 plus Copilot customers first.

2.       Run an AI and security readiness assessment. Use it to expose data, identity and governance gaps. This is a billable entry point and builds the business case.

3.       Model the numbers. Compare separate licenses against E7 at list price and with current CSP promotions. Microsoft is offering 10% off (10+ seats) and 15% off (100+ seats annual, or 300+ seats on a three-year term) through 31 December 2026, which can bring the price to about $84.15 per user per month.

4.       Pilot and prove. Deploy Copilot and a small set of governed agents for a defined group, and agree on success measures up front.

5.       Transact through CSP. Choose a monthly, annual or three-year term. E7 is also available through Enterprise Agreements and the Microsoft admin center, so confirm which channel suits each customer.

6.       Adopt and operate. Add training, change management, a center of excellence and managed services for agent governance. This is where recurring revenue is built.

Time to act

The CSP promotions end on 31 December 2026, which makes November the right moment to start conversations and agree on assessments. Start with your E5 base, build a pipeline from your E3 customers, and lead with governance, because the dominant pattern is governance first so that scale does not outpace trust.
